hit her,rape her, kill her

"Hit her, rape her, kill her" is a multimedia art project from 2020 that emerged as a powerful response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the alarming rates of domestic violence that increased during periods of lockdown worldwide.

This installation consists of three carefully edited videos compiled from selected segments of movies containing violent and disturbing phrases directed towards women. Each video, colored with the primary tones of the chromatic spectrum, is looped endlessly on individual screens within a dark room. The result is a shocking multisensory experience that aims to bring visibility to gender-based violence and its deep-rooted manifestations in popular culture.

This large-scale experience invites us to reflect on power dynamics and inequalities that persist in our society. Similar to my pictorial work, where I use the collage technique to challenge dominant narratives, "Hit her, rape her, kill her" employs the editing and montage of images to question hegemonic storytelling and expose underlying power structures.

The use of audiovisual media in this installation prompts us to examine how the repetition of violent phrases against women has the potential to neurologically alter our perception and normalize gender-based violence. Scientific research shows how the constant repetition of forceful messages can have lasting emotional and cognitive effects on our brains.
